DR. JEFFREY WILSON

Director – Terrametrics Research

Dr. Jeffrey Wilson is an Assistant Professor in Sustainability Business and Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Waterloo, School of Environment, Enterprise & Development and is a leading Canadian expert in sustainability management working at the interface of economic and environmental research and policy. Dr. Wilson’s research specializes in low carbon pathways, corporate social responsibility, sustainability strategy, natural capital accounting and ecosystem goods and services valuation. He has published 33 peer reviewed journal articles, an edited book, nine book chapters and dozens of technical reports, which are well cited, with over 1700 citations to date. Dr. Wilson enjoys teaching, leading classes in sustainability economics, economic development theory, environment and business, and corporate social responsibility. As an academic, he takes pride in staying abreast of leading edge thinking on sustainability innovation, corporate sustainability, and the green economy. Dr. Wilson is a member of the University of Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy, member of the University of Waterloo Climate Institute and an Affiliate with the Canadian Index of Wellbeing. In addition, he is an assistant director of the Economic Development Association of Canada and member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Net Zero Council. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo in 2019, Dr. Wilson ran a boutique consulting firm for over 18 years working with industry and all levels of government specializing in sustainability measurement and strategy to advance low carbon pathways.

Andrea Coxworthy

Operations Manager and Researcher – Terrametrics Research Lab

Andrea is an alumna from the University of Waterloo having recently graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science focused in the areas of biology and psychology. She also holds a Diploma in Sustainability from the Faculty of Environment. The diverse skillset taken from her undergraduate studies, coupled with a passion for sustainability, have given her a unique standpoint to work with community groups and on research projects. Since graduating she has pursued community work and research on the social, economic, and ecological impacts of the aggregate industry within rural community settings. Additionally, she works as a director on the Impossible Project aiming to boost morale and empower positive change by highlighting seemingly impossible occurrences.

Tatianna is a student in the Masters of Environmental Studies in Sustainability Management Program at the University of Waterloo. She has just completed her Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Environment and Business at the University of Waterloo, and has returned to complete her Masters. Tatianna is interested in incorporating her business knowledge to support and develop sustainable environmental practices. This interest has reinforced her passion for social innovation and sustainability. As she continues in her Masters program her research will be reflective of her passion as she focuses on social innovation and finance.

Muhammad Koya

Muhammad is currently a graduate student in the Master of Environmental Studies, Sustainability Management program at the University of Waterloo where his research focuses on impact investing and climate change.  As a sustainability professional, he has a diverse set of work experiences with non-profit organizations, marketing, business positions in the tech industry, and sustainability consulting.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo where he majored in Environment & Business, focusing on corporate sustainability and environmental management systems.  Muhammad is also a part of Youth Climate Lab, a climate non-profit, where he works on climate finance initiatives.  He is particularly interested in the areas of impact investing, climate change policy, social impact, climate finance, and corporate social responsibility. Muhammad has a strong passion for having a positive impact on the world environmentally and socially.

Nesma Hassan

Nesma Hassan is a PhD student at the University of Waterloo. Nesma holds a Master in Development Practice and a Project Management Professional certification. She is passionate about applied research and on-the-ground sustainability strategies. Alongside her PhD, Nesma currently consults on water interventions in South Sudan, South Africa and India with the Institute of Ecological Civilization. Throughout her career, she has worked on sustainable development interventions in the Middle East, North Africa and East Africa. Nesma is passionate about making cities and the built environment more context-appropriate and sustainable.

Funmi Olomodosi

Funmi Olomodosi is currently a candidate for a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Environment and Business at the University of Waterloo. She is actively involved in her student community, and has served as Vice President, Projects of the Waterloo Environment and Business Society during her past two campus terms. Her primary interest is the intersection between social issues, the environment, and business objectives. She is passionate about corporate social responsibility’s potential as a tool for businesses to integrate social and environmental concerns into their operations. She is currently pursuing her CAPM certification and hopes to use her knowledge and skills to incorporate sustainability into project management.

Veronica Sila Nhio-son

Veronica has a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and is pursuing a Masters in Climate Change. She has five years of work experience in client and customer facing roles and 5 years of experience in various sustainability positions. Some of these include working on regulation as an Environmental Officer, doing community engagement for Climate Action Waterloo Region, and exploring renewable and electrical energy technologies at Natural Resources Canada. In her free time, Veronica connects underserved communities with grocers and retailers to reduce food waste and emissions. She also Co-founded the Impossible Project, an eco-grief inspired initiative designed to boost morale through submitted stories. Driven by concerns of environmental justice and health, Veronica continues to advocate for a sustainable future that supports people from all walks of life.

Kayleanna Giesinger

Kayleanna Giesinger is Masters of Sustainability Management (MES) candidate through a President's Graduate and SSHRC J. Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is passionate about developing sustainable futures through industry and education. Her established work consists of published research on sustainable menstruation (Accepted, 2023), economic development (Published 2021) and mine-impacted water treatment (Accepted, 2023). Her work experiences extend from affordable energy access with the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy, mine impacted water treatment with the Frank Gu Lab Team at the University of Toronto, to open channel flow geomorphology with the Bruce MacVicar Research Team at the University of Waterloo. She has done additional community work on accessible education with Frontier College, engineering education research in the Civil Environmental Engineering Department, and international development with Engineers Without Borders. She has interests in scientific accessibility and sharing of knowledge, specifically in how science, technology, engineering and complex systems theory mathematics impact our societal and global systems.

Sara Ford

Sara Ford is currently a Masters of Environment Studies student at the University of Waterloo, enrolled in the Sustainability Management Program. In 2020, at the University of Waterloo, she completed her Bachelor of Environment Studies in Environment & Business, with a minor in Environment, Resource & Sustainability. During her undergraduate degree Sara developed an interest in sustainability accounting and reporting and put that in to practice during co-op positions. She is hoping to bring this passion into her Master’s degree and continue to work towards understanding and utilizing different frameworks and standards. Her current area of research focuses on sustainability and business resiliency.

Durgham Darwazeh

Durgham Darwazeh is currently pursuing a PhD of Sustainability Management at the University of Waterloo. He has achieved a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies specialized in tourism policy and planning. His master’s research has aimed to develop a framework for establishing a sustainable medical tourism facility. He has a strong background and experience in hospitality and tourism management. He has lectured and developed courses for hospitality and tourism management programs. Recently, Durgham is aiming to develop a unified sustainability assessment framework that can be applied within the hospitality and tourism sector for achieving the triple bottom line.

 
Nicholas Palaschuk

Nicholas is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sustainability Management at the University of Waterloo. His applied research maintains a transdisciplinary approach to creating functional linkages between the fields of corporate sustainability, behavior change, and social impact. Navigating the behavioral and cultural drivers of corporate sustainability transitions, Nicholas has a passion for supporting innovation in learning and development strategies to enable flourishing businesses in a purpose-led era and sustainable lifestyles in a resource-constrained world. Nicholas has an MSc in Technology and Public Policy and BSc in Restoration Ecology with a focus on supporting organizational development and social enterprise in remote Indigenous communities. A SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS-D Scholar and Energy Council of Canada Energy Policy Research Fellow, Nicholas remains particularly interested in working collaboratively with business leaders to deepen the efficacy and social impact and corporate sustainability policy and practice.

David is a government affairs and policy expert with considerable experience in both the public and private sectors who has assisted in setting effective political outreach and risk mitigation strategies for organizations often found in the headlines. His professional background is bolstered by international experience in South Africa, where he conducted sustainability research and assurance consulting for publicly traded companies. David has completed advanced academic programs with Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, the University of Waterloo, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Currently, David is completing a PhD in Sustainability Management while serving as a research fellow with the Energy Council of Canada.

 
Dr. Mohamed A. Dardir - Terrametrics Researcher

Dr. Mohamed Dardir

Dr. Dardir is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Environment, Enterprise & Development at the University of Waterloo. He is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Control & Building Science in the Department of Architectural Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Building Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Computer Science, Concordia University, Canada, in 2020. His research interests include renewable energy, building science, energy modeling, energy storage, and urban climate & health. Dr. Dardir is a member of Canada Green Building Council (CGBC), Indoor Air Quality, Ventilation & Energy Conservation (IAQVEC) Association, and the International Association of Building Physics (IABP) Society. He was invited to the Golden Key International Honour Society – Concordia chapter. Since 2019, he has over 100 citations with an h-index of 4. Dr. Dardir has over 15 years of experience in teaching activities of undergraduate and graduate courses in building and Architectural sciences. Prior to joining University of Waterloo, Dr. Dardir completed two Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Department of Architectural Science, Toronto Metropolitan University and the Department of Building Science, Concordia University. Regarding his career-related experience, Dr. Dardir is a licensed Architect in the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers with special professional achievements as an urban designer and a building energy analyst.

Amit Lahiri

Amit is a PhD candidate in Sustainability Management in the School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development (SEED), Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo in Canada. His prior education is a master’s degree in environmental studies (MES) and a Graduate Diploma in Business & the Environment from the Schulich School of Business, both earned at York University, Toronto in Canada. Additionally, he earned a master’s degree in molecular biology (MSc) from the University of Mumbai and a bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry & Environmental Science (BSc) from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai in India. Prior to starting  his PhD in the Fall of 2022, he brings substantial professional experiences from the higher education and life sciences industry sectors in various capacities, having worked across Canada, France, Germany, India and the U.A.E. Some of the significant accomplishments in his career have been taking a lead role in facilitating a community-university engagement around a participatory biodiversity conservation project in the Western Ghats of India, a lead author of a global citizenship & equity project on a social enterprise around shade-grown organic coffee in the Dominican Republic and awarding of the Board of Governors Award of Excellence in Community Partnerships at an Ontario college.
